Moroccan defender Hamza Mendyl signed on Friday, 17th of August, a deal with the German club Schalke 04, reports Reuters.

The 20-year-old football player left French club OSC Lille for a five-year contract, one year before the start of the Bundesliga season.

Mendyl was part of Hervé Renard’s World Cup squad. He flew to Russia with the Atlas Lions but did not have a chance to play with them, says the same source.

He will be joining Moroccan midfielder Amine Harit who has been playing for Schakle 04, since July 2017.

Mendyl made 13 appearances in Ligue 1 before getting transferred to Lille 2016.

«He offers a lot of what we want from that position», Schalke coach Domenico Tedesco told Reuters. «Athleticism, power, robust strength in attack. We look forward to joining him in his own talent’s development», he added.

For the record, Hamza Mendyl debuted his career at Mohammed VI Academy in Morocco from 2010 to 2016.
