The number of unaccompanied minor migrants entering Andalusia is significantly increasing. Since the beginning of this year, 4,098 unaccompanied minors arrived in the region, according to Spanish newspaper El Mundo.

The number has dramatically grown, compared to 2015 when only 895 minor migrants made it to the region. The flow has pushed the Andalusian government to rearrange its reception facilities.

However, 70% of the places made available by the region’s minor migrants centers are taken, said on Tuesday, 28th of August, the Minister of Equality and Social Policies, Maria Jose Sanchez Rubio. «2,400 places out of 3,443 are currently taken», she announced.

In 2015, the Andalusian government spent 17.7 million euros to host 895 unaccompanied migrants. The number rose to 45.4 million euros in 2018. But authorities in the region are trying to overcome the situation by allowing 451 new centers to receive other minor migrants.
