A 16-year-old teenager of Moroccan descent sought the help of the police on August 18th in Estepona (Malaga province) after claiming that her parents forced her to marry her cousin in the Kingdom, reports El Pais.

The girl says that she told her parents that she refuses to marry the 28-year-old man, but they rushed into arranging the wedding after receiving dowry.

Based on police reports, El Pais indicates that the marriage was formalized in Kenitra. «The investigation found out that authorities have been bribed by the family», the same source added.

The wedding was to be held later in Morocco but the teenager refused to return to the country. Her parents, on the other hand, threatened to make her go against her will and take her ID, which would have prevented her from completing her studies.

The teenager’s mother was arrested by the Spanish authorities while the father is still on the run, says El Pais.
