A Parti Québécois candidate has been disqualified by the sovereigntist provincial political party in Quebec, Wednesday 29th of August, for his anti-Islam posts on social media, reports Canadian online newspaper Montreal Gazette.

Pierre Marcotte who was chosen as the party’s candidate in Drummond-Bois-Francs published posts on his social media accounts, calling Muslims «pit bulls».

«This person will not be a Parti Québécois candidate; he does not represent the values of the Parti Québécois and, as of this morning, he is no longer a candidate», said the party’s leader Jean-François Lisée on Wednesday morning.

In different posts, Marcotte described Islam as a «menace» to the country, insisting that Muslim immigrants in Quebec should be forced to eat bacon, reports the same source.

«We consider Islam to be a religion as respectable as the others. It is the radicalism of a fringe that causes a problem, not the religion itself», Lisée said.

According to the newspaper, it is not the first time that a Parti Québécois candidate is accused of posting Islamophobic comments on social media. In May, Muguette Paillé left the party after her Islamophobic posts were revealed.
