Fisheries agreement : The Spanish fishing fleet is in a difficult situation, said Luis Planas

The Spanish Minister of Agriculture, Fishers, Food and Environment, Luis Planas, said, Wednesday, that the two ministerial decrees meant to grant aids to the fishermen, affected by the expiry of the fisheries agreement signed by Morocco and the European Union, will be «approved soon», reports La Vos de Galicia.

«The fleet is currently in a difficult situation as its activities have been stopped», declared Luis Planas in a parliament session held on the 29th of August and requested by several political parties in the country.

The minister recalled that the new fisheries agreement will be adopted next week in the European Parliament, which will have to examine its clauses before implementation.

«The ideal is to have the agreement entering into force in 2019, but I hope it will be approved by the end of this year», he stressed, adding that «the treaty will promote sustainability and provide job opportunities».

Moreover, Luis Planas called for the support of all parliamentary groups in Spain so that the EU parliament gives the go ahead to the agreement as soon as possible.

For the record, Unidos Podemos, formerly known simply as Podemos–IU, a left-wing electoral alliance formed by Podemos, urged the Minister, earlier this week, to provide explanations on the treaty at the parliament’s lower house. Unido Podemos’s request was supported by other political parties, including the Republican Left of Catalonia, PPeCAT and PNV and Cuidadanos.
