Morocco’s Hakim Ziyech is the Netherlands' best footballer of the year

Moroccan-Dutch attacking midfielder Hakim Ziyech was named on Monday, 3rd of September, the best Dutch footballer of the year and won the Gouden Schoen award (Golden Boot), announced Football 24/7 on Twitter.

He is a «piece of jewelry for Dutch football», said Ajax Coach Eric ten Hag after the annual ceremony, quoted by Dutch online newspaper Voetbalprimeur. «I think he plays for a good team, with lots of good footballers, it is wonderful and motivating to see him achieve this» he added.

The 25-year-old footballer participated to the 2018 World Cup in Russia alongside the Atlas Lions.

Ziyech debuted his career as a senior footballer with Heerenveen club in 2012, in the Netherlands. He later joined FC Twente in 2014 for a four-year contract.

In 2016, Hakim Ziyech started playing for Ajax after signing a five-year deal that was expected to last till 2021.

The title Dutch Footballer of the Year (Voetballer van het Jaar) has been awarded in the Netherlands since 1984. The award is determined by a poll of Dutch professional footballers playing in the First (Eredivisie) and Second (Eerste Divisie) leagues. In 2006, the award emerged with the «Golden Boot» to become one.
