Famous Algerian singer Rachid Taha, former leader of the band Carte de Séjour and member of 1,2,3, Soleils, known for his cover Ya Rayah, passed away on Tuesday, 11th of September in his place in Paris.

According to French media which quoted the singer’s family, Rachid Taha died of a heart attack while asleep. He was 59 years old.

Rachid Taha was notably known for his cover of Algerian song Ya Rayah, sung and written by Hahmane El Harrachi, one of the most popular songwriters in the neighboring country.

The singer was born on September the 18th, 1958 in Sig, near Oran (Algeria), before immigrating to France, with his parents in 1968.

His new album was supposed to be released in 2019.
