Moroccans involved in illegal immigration attempts foiled late Aug. 2018 down to 13%

The number of Moroccans involved in illegal immigration attempts that were foiled by the end of August 2018 decreased from 20% to 13%, said minister delegate in charge of relations with parliament and civil society, government spokesperson Mustapha El Khalfi.

During a press briefing following the weekly cabinet meeting, chaired by head of government Saad Eddine El Othmani, El Khalfi said the number of Moroccans involved in foiled attempts of illegal immigration decreased from 8,200 people at the end of August 2017 to 7,100 a year later.

He also reported 39,000 illegal immigration attempts late August 2017, against 54,000 attempts at the end of this August. This figure testifies to the intense efforts made by public authorities to fight illegal immigration networks, he said.

El Khalfi also said that the activities of illegal immigration networks have increased this year compared to 2017, reporting however a drop in the number of Moroccans implicated in these attempts that were thwarted.

«As a State, we are concerned and must increase efforts to face these networks that have developed their mechanisms and operating methods», he said, stressing that the law is clear in this regard and that the considerable efforts made by the Kingdom in this respect are lauded worldwide.
