The president of Melilla doesn't want «Moroccan students» in the city anymore

Six months ago, the president of Melilla proposed the construction of a school for 200 Moroccan students who were unable to benefit from national education.

However, Juan Jose Imbroda changed his mind lately stating that these kids must be schooled «in their country», reports El Faro de Melilla.

Imbroda believes that «it is absurd to enroll undocumented children in public centers in Melilla». «The city takes care of its students and of thousands others who have been sent by Morocco», he said, referring to unaccompanied minor migrants.

For the record, since last September around 200 students born in Melilla but settled outside the enclave cross the border of Mariguari every day, without being able to attend their classes.

The ordeal and injustice of the 200 students was exposed by a report by English director Ian McDonald.

They were finally able to join their classes this year, after the mobilization of local associations, who sought the help them to the Spanish Ministry of National Education.
