On the sidelines of the 73rd session of the UN General Assembly, Horst Köhler held several meetings. After holding talks, Tuesday, September 25, with David Hale, the United States Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs, the German diplomat met the same day with the Algerian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Abdelkader Messahel.
The UN Secretary-General's personal envoy for Western Sahara also spoke with Ismail Ould Cheikh, Mauritania's Foreign Affairs Minister, as well as Belgian Foreign Minister Didier Reynders.
This meeting is explained by the fact that Belgium will occupy, from 1 January 2019 until 31 December 2020, a seat of non-permanent member of the Security Council.
