Authorities recover 11 bodies and rescue 32 migrants near the coast of Nador

The Moroccan authorities have recovered 11 bodies and rescued 32 people near Nador, said a communiqué released on Tuesday.

The boat that was carrying sub-Saharan migrants was stuck near the coast of Nador on Monday, local authorities told AFP.

«Thirty-two sub-Saharan Africans were saved and the bodies of 11 migrants were recovered», said the same source.

The authorities have arrested an 18-year-old Malian national, who was suspected of helping these migrants cross the Mediterranean for Spain.

Meanwhile, Spanish activist Helena Maleno has raised the death toll, tweeting on Tuesday that 34 migrants died in the same operation. According to her 34 migrants who were stranded in a semi-submersible boat near the Moroccan shores with 26 other people.

«34, including a baby and a child, out of 60 migrants died yesterday near Morocco, they have been asking for help for 24 hours but we let them die slowly», wrote Helena Maleno on her Twitter account.
