The Moroccan office of the Turkish news agency Anadolu will close its doors by the end of this month. The decision was announced Friday to journalists working for the agency in the Kingdom, reports Al3omk.

The 2018 Turkish currency and debt crisis is the reason behind the decision, said the same source. In September, Turkey struggled with the lira plunging in value, high inflation and the rising borrowing costs. The crisis affected the country’s consumer price index which fell to 24.5% last month.

A few weeks ago, rumors suggested that Moroccan journalists working for Anadolu will be paid in dirhams instead of euros. However, the agency quickly reacted, denouncing the news.

For the record, Anadolu opened its office in Rabat in 2013.
