Joaquim Chissano helds a briefing on the Sahara at the AU Peace and Security Council

In the wake of the last African Union summit, held in July in Nouakchott, Morocco was congratulated on the implementation of the Peace and Security Council on the Sahara conflict.

Rabat hailed the creation of a troika, expected to examine the conflict. However, Wednesday 24th of October in Addis Ababa, African Union Special Envoy for Western Sahara, Joaquim Chissano held a briefing on the situation in Western Sahara before the members of the AU Peace and Security Council.

the AU Commissioner for Peace and Security is the Algerian diplomat Smail Chergui.

Wednesday's meeting was held only days before the UN Security Council adopt a new resolution renewing the mandate of the MINURSO.  

On March 31, Morocco has been considered as a member of the Council, a mandate that is expected to last for two years.
