American film directors Anthony and Joe Russo are shooting their new movie «Mosul» in Morocco, reported KFTV on Wednesday.
The Iraq-set war film tells the story of an elite group of Iraqi police officers who fought against ISIS militants in 2014. The movie is directed by screenwriter Matthew Carnahan and produced by the Russo brothers.
«Our writer-director Matthew Michael Carnahan was the perfect artist to depict this uniquely regional story, which champions a culture that has never really been championed on screen before», said the two brothers in a statement quoted by the same source.
«The heart of the movie depicts the innate desire to fight for country and home».
The Russo brothers are notorious in Hollywood for directing four Marvel superhero movies, including the Avengers.
For the record, Morocco has been home, these days, for several movie and series sets, including Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan, and Baghdad Central.
