Human rights non-governmental organization Amnesty International commented, Wednesday, on the sentence handed down to Moroccan activist El Mortada Iamrachen by the Sale Appeal Court.
«Today’s verdict is another appalling blow for freedom of expression in Morocco and a blatant miscarriage of justice», wrote the London-based NGO.
For Amnesty International, Iamrachen who was sentenced to five years in prison for two Facebook posts, must be released as he was targeted because of his opinion about Hirak protests in Al Hoceima.
«His conviction is the latest example of the Moroccan authorities’ stepping up their crackdown on dissent by prosecuting and intimidating protesters from the Hirak movement».
For the record, Iamrachen was first sentenced to five years in prison by the Sale Court of First Instance. The prison term was confirmed on November the 14th by the Sale Appeal court.
