Tunisia to play the role of a mediator between Morocco and Algeria

Tunisia is reading to play the role of a mediator between Morocco and Algeria. The North African country has suggested to host a «meeting behind closed doors to bring together Foreign Ministers from the five Maghreb states».

This plan was made public by Tunisian Foreign Minister Khemaies Jhinaoui, when interviewed by Tunisian online newspaper Assabah News.

«We are working with officials from both Morocco and Algeria to overcome the Arab and regional bilateral differences, including the Moroccan-Algerian dispute», he told the same source.

Jhinaoui praised the royal initiative launched on November the 6th by King Mohammed VI and the one suggested by Algeria, which urged the Arab Maghreb Union to convene a meeting of the organization’s Foreign Affairs Ministers Council.

For the record, Mauritania announced a few days ago that it is ready to host the meeting suggested by Algeria.
