United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres will travel to Morocco this weekend to take part in the Marrakech Intergovernmental Conference (10-11 December) for the official adoption of the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration, his spokesman announced Friday in New York.
In Marrakech, Guterres will also take part, on Monday, in a high-level meeting to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, as will several former United Nations High Commissioners for Human Rights, spokesman Stéphane Dujarric said at a press briefing.
The Marrakech Intergovernmental Conference, convened by the United Nations, will bring together at least 150 member States and 20 Heads of State and Government.
This is a «very important» conference that will launch a «global debate» on the issue of migration. «We are very grateful for the support of Morocco, which is hosting this conference,» Dujarric said.
