One month after King Mohammed VI urged Algeria in a speech to join the creation of a «joint mechanism for dialogue» to better diplomatic relations between the two neighboring states, Algerian former UN diplomat Lakhdar Brahimi commented on the initiative.

In an interview conducted by French magazine Jeune Afrique, Brahimi stated that «there is no reason for the current crisis», referring to the situation of diplomatic ties between Rabat and Algiers.

For Lakhdar Brahimi, the initiative suggested by King Mohammed VI was met with «a warm message from President Abdelaziz Bouteflika».

For the record, Algeria did not issue an official response to the royal proposition, made public on the 6th of November. Last Month, Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita urged Algeria to officially reply to the initiative.

After holding a meeting with the ambassador of the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria in Rabat, Bourita asked Algeria to «make known, officially, its reaction towards the Royal Initiative for the establishment of a bilateral political mechanism for dialogue and consultation».
