American movie director Martin Scorsese is now the godfather of the Moroccan Centre for Cinematography (CCM), announced the same body on Thursday.

After Scorsese attended the 17th edition of the Marrakech International Film Festival, which took place from 30th November to the 8th December 2018, the director of the Moroccan Center for Cinematography, Narjiss Nejjar, initiated a meeting with the filmmaker.

During this meeting, the director highlighted the missions of the Moroccan institution, which includes preserving the Moroccan cinematographic heritage and fund raising, said CCM in a statement.

The American director was pleased with the ambitions of this project and proposed to be the official godfather of the Moroccan Centre for Cinematography, says the same source, stressing that this sponsorship will allow the Moroccan body to benefit from the expertise of the Film Foundation, a non-profit institution committed to the protection and preservation of the world cinematographic works.

In addition to its founder, Martin Scorsese, the institution gathers known filmmakers such as Francis Ford Coppola, Woody Allen, Georges Lucas and Steven Spielberg.

This partnership will also allow the Moroccan Centre for Cinematography to gain visibility on the international scene, concludes the same source.
