Israel’s Parliament announced on Wednesday that it had approved a law to permit exports of medical marijuana. The law was passed Tuesday, giving the green light to farmers to export cannabis for medical purposes, reports AFP.

«The Israeli medical cannabis company iCAN predicts the global industry will reach $33 billion in the next five years, as stigma fades and demand grows for the few countries certified to export», Associated Press says.

While Israel took this major step, Morocco, which is considered as one of the biggest cannabis producing countries in the world, bans medical cannabis exports.

Authenticity and Modernity party and the Istiqlal submitted in 2012 two bills to the Parliament for the legalization of medical cannabis. The two bills were discussed in April 2018 but they were completely ignored by MPs.

For the record, Morocco is the world’s biggest cannabis producer, according to data made public by the United Nations International Narcotics Control Board in a 2016 report.
