Salafist detainees in Morocco have also denounced the killing of the two Scandinavian tourists, who were allegedly murdered by the members of a cell that pledged allegiance to ISIS. On the 27th of December, seven days after the tragedy, the Joint Committee for the Defense of Islamists Detainees issued a statement condemning the terrorist attack.
The murder «violated the Islamic law (Sharia) … it is a criminal act committed outside the framework of the divine laws», said the body. «Neither reason nor logic accept this», the same source added.
The NGO did not miss the opportunity to denounce this act, without criticizing with the same tone the «campaign launched by some extremists who blame Islam and all 'Islamists'» for the Imlil murder.
Salafist detainees
The abovementioned press release was followed, two days later, by another communiqué signed by several Salafist detainees held in the Oukacha prison in Casablanca, in Fes, Meknes,Safi and Tangier.
These Salafists believe that the «murders that took the lives of the two Scandinavian women have nothing to do with Sharia and Islamic law». They have also urged people not to «demonize» them because of an «isolated crime», through a «campaign launched against them» on social media, the Joint Committee for the Defense of Islamists Detainees said in a communiqué published on December the 29th.
These reactions come as these Salafists are expecting good news regarding their pending cases. «The Committee and the families are expecting the release of some of the Salafist detainees held in prison, probably during the holidays», a source close to the case told Yabiladi.
They fear that the terrorist murders in Imlil would impact the «Moussalaha» program, launched by the General Delegation for Prison Administration and Reintegration (DGAPR).
For the record, on August the 20th, 22 Islamist prisoners had already been granted royal pardon on the occasion of the commemoration of the 65th anniversary of the Revolution of the King and the People.
