In South Africa, General elections will be held in May to elect a new National Assembly and new provincial legislatures in each province and will be followed by presidential elections. On Saturday, January the 12th in Durban, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa referred during a speech marking the 107th anniversary of the founding of the African National Congress (ANC) to the Western Sahara conflict.

Speaking to the crowds, he said that «the struggle of the Sahrawi people for freedom and independence is our struggle».

«In the ANC, we will continue to fight alongside the Polisario Front to enable the Sahrawi people to exercise their right to self-determination, freedom and independence», stressed the President.

This commitment has been at the heart of the South African Foreign Minister’s visit to Algeria. Invited by her counterpart Abdelkader Messahel, Lindiwe Sisulu is currently in Algiers to discuss ways of supporting the Front.
