A week after she left her prison cell, Moroccan businesswomen Hind El Achabi is back on track, catching up on pending projects. Arrested in 2016, El Achabi served a prison sentence in Salé for «adultery», after her divorce from Kuwaiti diplomat Sadiq Marafi was not recognized.

Her divorce was followed by a second marriage, as she tied the knot with Moroccan entrepreneur Mohsine Karim Bennani.

Interviewed by French daily Liberation a few days after she was released from prison, the 40-year-old entrepreneur and mother of three children explained that it was «Mr Marafi who misled justice» .

Mixing diplomacy and business between Kuwait, Morocco, Mali and the United States complicated things. The French newspaper reported that El Achabi was married to her first husband in 2013 and filed for divorce in August 2014.

While the businesswoman says she was married to Mohsine Karim-Bennani in Mali, this new union was not recognized by the Moroccan law. Marafi filed a suitcase against Achabi in the Kingdom, indicating that they were still married.

The sentence was pronounced ten days after the birth of her second daughter. Today, she shares with Liberation her desire to resume a normal life, revive her business and «prove [her] innocence» .
