An Iberian-Moroccan bid to host the 2013 World Cup «would be charming», said FIFA president Gianni Infantino in an interview with Spanish sports newspaper As.
«A football World Cup jointly organized by Morocco, Spain and Portugal would have special charm. It would be the second World Cup in an African continent», he said Thursday in Marrakech on the sidelines of the third FIFA Executive Football Summits.
«As FIFA president, I must be and I am neutral, but it is true that organizing a joint World Cup between two continents, two cultures and two religions is an idea that only football can achieve», Gianni Infantino added.
To Gianni, an Iberian-Moroccan joint bid is geographically possible, considering that the essential thing is to see if the two football federations, like those of Africa and Europe can organize together such a sporting event.
He also added that «during these days in Marrakech, I was able to see that this idea enthusiastic and I think it is something positive».
Nevertheless, he said that a decision on this subject will be taken in 2024, stressing that FIFA will have time by then to study all possible alternatives.
