Students at the University of South-Eastern Norway (USN) gathered Wednesday, January the 23rd, to remember Maren Ueland and Louisa Vesterager Jespersen, two Scandinavian tourists who were killed December in Morocco.
A memorial service was held at the University’s facility in Bo, a town in Norway, where the two students used to study outdoor activities, nature and cultural guidance, reports Norwegian newspaper Verdens Gang.
«The killings have shaken the whole university, and through this memorial service we will honor and wish peace and comfort to Maren and Louisa», said the university principal Petter Asen while delivering a speech before the attendees.
During this memorial, students rendered homage to their classmates. A closed session was held the same day, where students spent their time together, sharing pictures and singing songs.
Maren’s funeral was held Monday, January the 21st, and was attended by Morocco’s ambassador to Norway. A week before, Louisa’s service took palce at her hometown in Denmark and was attended by the Danish Prime Minister.
For the record, the two young women had gone backpacking for a month-long Christmas holiday, December, in Morocco. Mount Toubkal, North Africa’s highest peak, was on their travel checklist and they headed to the city of Marrakech for that.
The Scandinavian alpinists were found dead near their tent, Monday December the 17th, with cuts to their necks, a terror act that led to the arrest to more than 20 people.
