The Tunisian Human Rights League has protested against a foreign helicopter that, reportedly, flew over Djerid, a region in South Western Tunisia.
According to several Tunisian newspapers, the country’s Ministry of Defense said Thursday, in a statement made public by radio Mosaique FM, that the «foreign helicopter spotted in Tozeur is Moroccan» and that it «landed at the airport after receiving a go-ahead from the authorities and the Ministry of Transport».
The Ministry stressed that this helicopter was «authorized by the Ministry of Equipment, Habitat and Urban Planning to fly over non-urban and Saharan areas to take photos of the city’s landscapes, collaborating with the Tunisian authorities».
The Ministry’s communiqué was released after the NGO contacted several departments in Tunisia, denouncing the presence of a «red» helicopter that tracks people in the region. The Tunisian Human Rights League urged the authorities to «take the necessary measures to protect the region’s inhabitants».
