A 24-year-old Moroccan man died on January the 15th as he was trying to reach the Spanish coast, Spanish daily Publico reported on Monday.
The deceased was hiding under the wheels of a truck that links Melilla to Spain.
A week after his death, his older brother went to Melilla to see his brother’s body. His family paid around 3,500 euros to repatriate him to Morocco. He was buried on January 28 in Fes.
His relatives say they do not know if an investigation was opened in Melilla to clarify the circumstances of his death. The young man worked as a hairdresser. He grew up with his two brothers, his little sister and his parents in a «modest neighborhood» in Fez.
This death brings to three the number of Moroccans who lost their lives in the port of the autonomous city since 2017 while attempting to reach Spain, according to data provided by the Melilla Port Authority.
