The investigating judge in charge of terrorism affairs at the annexe of Salé's appeal court heard, on Monday, a Swiss national of Spanish nationality, for alleged links with the perpetrators of the murder of two Scandinavian tourists on 17 December in the commune of Imlil (El Haouz province).

The investigating judge initiated this process as part of the detailed interrogation procedure, while the hearing of the other defendants in this case was postponed, says a judicial source.

The suspect is prosecuted for the formation of a gang to prepare and commit terrorist acts aimed at seriously undermining State security, premeditated assistance to perpetrators of terrorist acts, training of persons to join a terrorist organization and advocacy of terrorism.

The public prosecutor at Rabat's appeal court had referred 22 suspects, including a Swiss national of Spanish nationality, to the investigating judge in connection with the continuation of the investigation in this case, in accordance with a request to question them about terrorist acts.

The central Bureau of judicial investigations (BCIJ), under the Directorate general for national territory surveillance, announced on 29 December that it had arrested a foreign suspect in Marrakech.

According to the investigation, the arrested individual, imbued with extremist and violent ideology, is suspected of initiating some of the defendants in this case to communication tools via new applications and training them in shooting, the BCIJ says in a statement, adding that the investigation also reveals his involvement in operations to recruit Moroccan and sub-Saharan citizens to carry out terrorist plans in Morocco, targeting foreign interests and security forces elements, with a view to seizing their service weapons.
