After failing to hinder the vote of the European Parliament on the Morocco-EU fisheries agreement, the Polisario Front mobilized its supporters in both Strasbourg and the Sahara to denounce the adoption of the treaty.

On Tuesday, and while the fisheries agreement was at the heart of a plenary session at the European Parliament, pro-Polisario activists from several European cities held a rally.

Holding banners and flags, they chanted slogans «rejecting the maneuvers of the European Commission to continue illegally exploiting the Sahrawi natural resources in complicity with Morocco», reported the Polisario press agency on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, another rally took place on Tuesday in Es-Semara, before it was dispersed by the police.

On Wednesday in Laayoune, the Front’s supporters tried to organize a demonstration, initiated by «unemployed graduates», the same source said.

For the record, the European Parliament adopted, on Tuesday in Strasbourg, by an overwhelming majority the new fisheries agreement between Morocco and the European Union (EU).

This vote is the last step of validation at European level before the adoption by the Moroccan Parliament and the entry into force of this agreement, which sets the conditions of access for the European fleet and provides for the requirements of sustainable fishing.
