South Africa and Namibia are co-hosting the Southern African Development Community (SADC) solidarity conference on Western Sahara from the 25th to the 26th of March, announced South Africa’s Foreign Minister Lindiwe Sisulu in an address made public on Wednesday.

The conference is expected to take place in South Africa, revealed the same document, insisting that the event will be «demonstrating (South Africa’s) ongoing commitment to the struggle of the Saharawi people».

«We want to emphasize that the solution to the question of Western Sahara should be based on the principle of self-determination and decolonization», stated the South African Minister while speaking at the parliament.

The country urged SADC in August, 2018, to «show solidarity with the people of the Sahrawi Republic and put more pressure on Morocco to implement the resolutions adopted by the United Nations, which guarantee the independence of Western Sahara people».

President Cyril Ramaphosa announced, at the time, that SADC will organize an extraordinary session to support the Sahrawi people.

For the record, the South African President joined, during the weekend, in Addis Ababa the African Union’s presidential troika in charge of monitoring the Western Sahara conflict.
