French-Moroccan central defender Adil Rami said that he went through burnout after playing for the French team at the 2018 World Cup, held in Russia.

Speaking to French premium television channel Canal +, the footballer explained how he lost his motivation after the international tournament. «Even the smell of the field, I couldn’t feel it anymore», Adil Rami admitted, adding that he did not feel like «hitting attackers anymore».

According to AFP, the French-born player said he was «aggressive and mean to fans who wanted to take photos with him and yelled at others who filmed him without asking for his permission». «I was embittered by my surroundings and the people around me, but I hated to show that», he added.

The former Lille player has even «spoken to a mental coach over the phone» to try to understand what was happening to him, the same source said.

Currently suffering from an injury, Adil Rami said he «is happy that he was injured». «It is weird, but I am glad I have been able to rest and take a break», he concluded.
