The Alliance of Civilizations will launch next April the global call of peace through culture from the Mohammed VI Museum for Modern and Contemporary Art of Rabat, a place that reflects the ability of Morocco to combine modernity and tradition, UN High Representative for the Alliance of Civilizations Miguel Angel Moratinos told MAP.
«I intend as the new High Representative for the Alliance of Civilizations to visit Morocco during the first half of April in order to hold a debate that includes culture in the political agenda», said Moratinos following a meeting, in New York, with President of the National Foundation of Moroccan Museums Mehdi Qotbi.
He said he wanted to organize this debate at the Mohammed VI Museum because of its great symbolism. Moratinos also intends to invite Director-General of UNESCO Audrey Azoulay to take part in this dialogue of peace, culture and the values of tolerance and coexistence.
The former Spanish foreign minister said that the choice of Rabat to host this initiative is due to the fact that Morocco fully reflects the spirit of the Alliance as it has always been a melting pot for civilizations and a land of tolerance where Muslims, Jews and Christians have always coexisted.
This is an absolutely exceptional place, said Moratinos, adding that he was invited, in 2014, of King Mohammed VI to the inauguration of the Mohammed VI Museum.
