After the United Kingdom’s Foreign and Commonwealth (FCO) updated advice on the threat from terrorism in Morocco, travel experts said that «British travelers should not be put off visiting» the Kingdom, Telegraph reports.

Speaking to the same source, Moroccan product manager at Intrepid Travel Steph Millington said that Morocco remains safe «as long as travelers are sensible».

«It’s advisable to perhaps dress more conservatively than you would at home (UK), respect local customs and cultures, avoid isolated areas and try to avoid travelling alone on public transport, but the level of advice is pretty similar to other parts of Europe», she said.

To the expert, British travelers must consider the cultural aspects of the country and respect local traditions. Meanwhile, she advised British tourists to avoid traveling alone to areas, known for hashish production, not to hike alone and always seek help if needed.

«The key to all of this is common sense and respectful behavior, something that Moroccans hold dear. Often a simple 'hashouma!' (Shame!) can get rid of unwanted attention», she stressed.

For the record, FCO changed on March the 20th information and advice set for British tourists, planning to vacation in Morocco. The agency stressed that «terrorists are very likely to try to carry out attacks in Morocco. You should be vigilant at all times», in a new travel advisory.

The FCO links the new update to the terrorist attack that targeted two Scandinavian tourists in December, 2018, in Imlil, a small town near Morocco’s highest peak.

The two foreign mountaineers were murdered by a four-member terror cell, that pledged allegiance to ISIS one week after the attack.
