The Al Quds Call, signed by King Mohammed VI and Pope Francis in Morocco, is «in line» with the position of the UN Chief, Antonio Guterres, regarding the status of the holy city, said on Monday Stéphane Dujarric, Spokesman for the United Nations Secretary-General.
The Al Quds Call «goes along the line with what the Secretary General has been saying for quite a long time that Jerusalem has a sacred character for Jews, Christians and Muslims and that it needs to be preserved», he said at his daily press briefing.
The visit paid by Pope Francis to Morocco «was extremely important and extremely symbolic», he noted, adding that anything that can bring greater understanding and tolerance between religions «is to be welcomed».
Commenting Pope Francis remarks on migrants’ rights, Dujarric said that «the issue of protection of migrants and the respect of migrants' dignity is something that is very close to UN Secretary-General’s heart».
