Morocco dismantles terror cell led by former fighter in Syrian-Iraqi region, Ministry says

As part of efforts to deal with terrorist threats linked to the so-called «Islamic State» organization, the Central Bureau of Judiciary Investigations (BCIJ) dismantled, on Wednesday in Taza, a terrorist cell made up of four extremists, aged between 33 and 38, and led by a former fighter in the Syrian-Iraqi region who had served a prison sentence in 2015 under the anti-terrorism law.

According to a statement by the Interior ministry, preliminary data revealed that the head of this terrorist cell, who recruited and supervised elements of his group, tried to use his fighting experience in the Syrian-Iraqi region to plan and prepare to carry out terrorist acts against sensitive institutions in the Kingdom.

The suspects were remanded in custody as part of the investigation conducted under the supervision of the competent prosecutor, the same source adds.
