Casablanca judicial police arrested, on Friday on the back of tip-off by services of the directorate general of territory surveillance, two Spanish nationals accompanied by two Moroccans for their alleged involvement in the possession of a quantity of gold suspected of being linked to criminal activities.
The search and investigations helped to catch the four suspects, onboard a foreign country-registered vehicle, while carrying 78 gold blocks weighting 11.7 kg and looking for potential buyers, said national police (DGSN).
The seized gold was sent to the laboratory of the scientific and technical police for an expertise, it said in a statement, noting that a legal investigation was opened under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor's office to determine the source of this gold, whether or not it is related to criminal activities and uncover all possible criminal acts implicating the four suspects.
