After his Monday remarks on Moroccan-Dutch footballer Hakim Ziyech, the Minister of Youth and Sports Rachid Talbi Alami gave, Tuesday, his version of the story.
Interviewed by Sports news outlet Kooora, the Minister said that Ziyech’ Instagram story, in which he the official of «coming up with lies» on his career with the Atlas Lions, comes after the player «was trapped».
Alami said that the president of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) called Ziyech after he published the Instagram story but he «did not answer». «His manager answered later, acknowledging the fact that Ziyech was trapped by someone who misinterpreted», the minister’s words intentionally, Alami said.
He added that Ziyech's manager promised to «clarify the situation and delete said story».
«Some parties are trying to wreck the Moroccan team and they have, unfortunately, succeeded in doing so. There’s someone who called Hakim Ziyech and told him that I had organized a press conference to attack him and announce his retirement».
To the Minister of Youth and Sports, Ziyech was «brought up by someone» against him. «But I was understanding after the explanations and promises of his manager», he added.
Rachid Talbi Alami said that he «was not lying». «On the contrary, I hope that Ziyech stays with the national team. I was in Egypt and I have seen how sad he was after the game with Benin», he added.
«He is our son and we appreciate his patriotism. Personally, I do not hesitate to defend him especially after the bitter campaign launched against him which, in my opinion, aims at harming the Atlas Lions», he concluded.
