The Disciplinary Commission of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) decided on Tuesday to impose fines against Moroccan football clubs the Renaissance Sportive of Berkane (RSB) and the Wydad Athletic Club (WAC), in the order of $62,500 and $15,000 respectively after the events that occurred during the final games of the Confederation Cup (Alexandria) and the Champions League (Rabat).
RS Berkane was fined $22,500 for the use of smoke-generating products, lasers and projectiles by its supporters in the second leg of the CAF Cup final, according to the African football governing body.
CAF also decided to suspend RS Berkane player Omar Nemssaoui for four matches and fine him $10,000 for his unsporting behavior against the refereeing staff in the second leg match in Alexandria.
Another fine of $30,000 was imposed on RS Berkane for the conduct of its officials against the Ethiopian referee Bamlak Tessema during the same game.
WAC and Esperance sportive of Tunis (EST) will each have to pay a fine of $15,000 due to the use of smoke-generating products by their respective supporters in the first leg of the Champions League final.
The allegations of referee Bamlak Tessema, who had accused RS Berkane president Fouzi Lekjaâ of violence, were rejected. According to CAF, the referee's report does not match that of the match commissioner, Equatorial Guinea's Gustavo Ndong Edu. «The Disciplinary Committee has decided that there is not enough solid and corroborated evidence to prove Fouzi Lekjaâ's guilt».
