The Royal Moroccan Football Federation is expected to announced, Thursday, the name of the Atlas Lions’ new manager. According to state-owned sports channel Arryadia, the football governing body will reveal the appointment of French-Bosnian coach Vahid Halilhodzic as the new manager of the football national team.
Quoting a source at the Royal Moroccan Federation, the TV channel added that this announcement will be made at the headquarters of the body on Thursday afternoon.
Having Halilhodzic replace French coach Hervé Renard, who left for Saudi Arabia after the Africa Cup of Nations, was expected for weeks. Reports suggested that the manager has been negotiating a potential contract with the Moroccan federation right after the departure of Renard.
The French-Bosnian coach has already worked in Morocco. He managed Raja Casablanca in the 1990s and won the 1997 CAF Champions League in December 1997, and the 1997–98 Moroccan Championship in May 1998.
For the record, Morocco has been also trying to hire French coach Laurent Blanc, who has reportedly refused the offer of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation.
