After he previously announced that his movement may declare war against Morocco, the Polisario leader Brahim Ghali said this week that his statements were «not war threats».
Interviewed, Tuesday, by United States-based public Arabic-language satellite TV channel Al Hurra, Ghali stressed that «Sahrawis do not want to start war», but would opt for it «if needed».
Quoted by the Front’s news agency SPS, he stressed that the «failure» of international attempts made to find a solution to this dispute «may push the Front to think of other options», referring to «military confrontation».
The contradicting statements of Ghali emerged a few days ago, when he attended the closing ceremony of the 10th edition of the Sahrawi summer university in Boumedres, Algeria.
Speaking during the event, Ghali addressed a message to Moroccans saying that he is «extending the hand of peace, understanding, cooperation and good neighborliness to them».
His words came after he declared, during a meeting, in July that his movement would move to an «offensive solution» and that he is planning to get his war plot against Morocco studied beforehand, especially by implementing compulsory military service in the camps.
