Prince Moulay Rachid represented king Mohammed VI at the enthronement ceremony of the new Emperor of Japan, Naruhito, which took place on Tuesday at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo.
Prince Moulay Rachid attended the ceremony, during which the new 59-year-old ruler, dressed in a traditional court costume from the Heian period (8th-12th century), proclaimed ascension to Chrysanthemum Throne.
More than 2,500 guests from 190 countries, including foreign dignitaries and royalty, attended the enthronement ceremony, held at the Hall of Pine in Tokyo Imperial Palace.
King Mohammed VI had sent a congratulatory message to emperor Naruhito of Japan on his accession to the throne, in which the sovereign had expressed his heartfelt congratulations to emperor Naruhito, wishing him every success in his efforts to lead the Japanese people towards greater progress and prosperity.
The sovereign had also voiced his appreciation for the close ties of friendship and mutual esteem between the two royal families, and for the solid relations of cooperation and active solidarity between Morocco and Japan, expressing his determination to work, together with Emperor Naruhito, to maintain and consolidate the special relations between Morocco and Japan in the service of the interests of both peoples.
