Police in Salé arrested on Tuesday afternoon 23 Moroccan migrants on the shore of the Bouregreg river in Rabat.
Investigations carried out led to the arrest of the main individuals involved, say the national police (DGSN) in a statement, stressing that they are seven persons, two of whom are suspected of being the organizers of the operation and five others suspected of acting as intermediaries.
The search operations resulted in the seizure of equipment and logistical tools (zodiac, three cars, a scooter, a large knife, a lifejacket and a set of mechanical equipment) suspected of being used for clandestine travel, the source added.
The suspects were remanded in custody to complete the investigation conducted under the supervision of the competent prosecutor's office to determine the ins and outs of this case, while the would-be immigrants were heard, the statement concluded.
