The Comoros, an island country in the Indian Ocean, announced Wednesday in Rabat that it is opening a Consulate General in Laayoune. The announcement was made by the Comoros President’s emissary Bianrifi Tarmidi who held talks with Morocco’s Foreign Affairs Minister Nasser Bourita.
Comoros’ decision comes after Côte d'Ivoire opened in June an honorary consulate in Laayoune in an attempt to deepen diplomatic ties with Morocco.
For the record, Comoros is a member of the Arab League and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation. It is the first Arab country to open a consulate in Laayoune.
