The Polisario Front sent, Monday, a letter to the United Nations Security Council, denouncing the expulsion of Basque MPs from the Sahara.

In their letter, the separatist movement «condemned the expulsion» of the four members of the regional Parliament of the Basque Country in Spain who were expected to stay in the Sahara for a week.

«It is unacceptable that the Moroccan authorities continue to deny access to the territory of Western Sahara, which remains under the responsibility of the United Nations pending a definitive solution to the conflict», wrote the representative of the Polisario Front at the United Nations Mohamed Omar.

On Sunday, Spanish news agency EFE reported that Moroccan authorities have prevented Basque MPs from entering the city of Laayoune.

Citing Carmelo Barrio, a member of the People’s Party, reported that a representative of the Moroccan authorities told them they could not get off the plane, which had just landed in Laayoune and that they had to return to the Canary Islands aboard the same plane.
