Morocco : A man arrested for attempted assault against police officers with knife

Safi Provincial Police arrested, on Saturday, an individual under the influence of drugs for his alleged involvement in an attempt to assault police officers, while on duty, using a knife.

The suspect, aged 23, who has multiple criminal records for assault and battery resulting in death and attempted rape, presented himself, intoxicated, to the police station, said a statement by the National Police (DGSN), adding that this individual, who hid a knife under his clothes, attempted to assault, for no apparent reason, a police inspector which forced him to use his weapon by firing three warning shots.

Policemen arrested the suspect and seized the knife which was in his possession, the same source said.

The suspect was placed in police custody to conduct the investigation under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor's office, the statement concluded.
