Policemen foiled on Saturday morning an international drug trafficking attempt and seized 4,603 kilograms of cannabis resin.

This operation was carried out at El Kabdani, 70 km from Nador, and led to the arrest of a 37-year-old individual for his alleged links to a criminal network, national police said in a statement.

Policemen seized three vehicles, including one registered in Europe with 4,603 kg of cannabis resin on board, the source added.

The two other vehicles contained mechanical parts of inflatable boat engines and 121 containers of 3,630 liters of fuel which would be used in international drug trafficking operations by sea, it said.

During the arrest and seizure operations, the security services spotted a car with five people on board who were filming the operation with a camera, the source said, adding that that these individuals were arrested to investigate into their possible links with the criminal network involved in the case.

An investigation is underway under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor's office with a view to identifying all the people linked to this criminal network and shedding light on the possible ramifications of this network in Morocco and abroad, the source said.
