While the Italian health authorities are trying to curb the spread of coronavirus, 325 cases of the virus have been confirmed on Wednesday. Eleven towns in northern Italy have been lockdown and schools, universities and public venues were closed to avoid the rapid spread of the virus.

Assisting the Moroccan diaspora amid the outbreak, considered the heaviest outside Asia since the eruption of the virus, the Moroccan embassy in Rome has set up a crisis cell with numbers to call. Speaking to Yabiladi, Wednesday, a source within this cell said that so far «there has been no reported coronavirus case among Moroccans living in Italy».

The same source stressed that members of the diaspora «has been calling the numbers made public by the cell to ask questions related to travel restrictions and the preventive measures to follow when traveling to Morocco».

Another source within the consulate general in Rome confirmed the same thing, adding that even in the regions heavily affected by the virus «no Moroccan case has been recorded for the moment». In the Rome region, «only three coronavirus cases have been recorded and the three of them are foreign nationals».

For the record, towns in the northern region of Lombardy and Veneto are the most affected by the virus which killed 11 people in Italy.

Several European countries have announced their first coronavirus cases, with all appearing to be linked to the growing outbreak in Italy.

The World Health Organization announced that 80,134 cases have been announced in the world and 2,698 deaths have been linked to the deadly virus.
