The first confirmed coronavirus case in Morocco was announced, Monday evening, by the Health Ministry.

In a press release, the health authorities explained that this case has been confirmed by the national laboratory of the Institut Pasteur, Monday. The patient, who tested positive for the virus, is a Moroccan citizen residing in Italy, the country that recorded the highest number of coronavirus cases outside Asia.

The ministry said that "the patient's condition is stable and doesn't show any concern". "He is currently being treated in an isolation unit at the Moulay Youssef hospital in Casablanca, where he will be taken care of in accordance with the sanitary procedures in place", the communiqué read.

"Immediately after receiving the results of the tests, a team of experts carried out investigations in order to draw up the list of all the people that were in contact" with him, the ministry added.

The goal is to "monitor them and take preventive measures to avoid the spread of the virus in accordance with national and international health security standards".

For the record, the Health Ministry has indicated that it will continue to communicate with the public and keep it informed.
