The second confirmed coronavirus case in Morocco has died, the health Ministry said in a communiqué released Tuesday.
The patient was an 89-year-old woman who tested positive for coronavirus last week after she returned from Bologna, a city in northern Italy.
According to the Health Ministry, the patient died, Tuesday, at noon in one of Casablanca’s hospital. Last week, health authorities in Morocco said that she was in a «critical condition» because she suffers from a chronic illness.
The deceased patient came from Italy through the Casablanca Mohammed V International Airport on February 25 and was admitted in one of Casablanca’s hospitals.
When she landed in Casablanca, the patient did «not show any symptoms related to the virus», health authorities said, adding «days later, she started to show symptoms» that were not similar to the ones detected in an infected patient.
The patient «started having respiratory symptoms, which pushed one of her family members to call the Health Ministry’s hotline» launched to assist citizens with suspected coronavirus symptoms, the Ministry added.
For the record, two people, including a French tourist, have tested positive for the novel virus in Morocco.
