The Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs announced on Wednesday the cancellation of all religious moussems (fairs) regardless of the size of their gatherings, following the outbreak of the new coronavirus in several countries.
In a statement, the ministry underlined that this decision was taken in accordance with the instructions of Sharia relating to the protection of souls and bodies against any damage, taking into account the epidemic which hit a number of countries and medical advice related to this topic, especially those regarding the prevention of contagion during rallies.
In this regard, the ministry called on the Ulema, preachers as well as imams (religious leaders) to raise the awareness of people to the issue of preventing the epidemic, mainly by respecting hygiene rules and avoiding all possibilities of contamination.
